Costa Rica
Discovering our website was the hard part now let us help you discover Costa Rica! Our tranquil little Central American country is bordered by Nicaragua to the North and Panama to the South, the Pacific Ocean to the West and the Caribbean to the East. There are about 4.43 million people in Costa Rica and three quarters of them live in the capitol city of San Jose and vicinity. The rest of the country is made up of small towns, isolated villages, national parks, and pristine wilderness.
Costa Rica's natural beauty and peacefulness have made it an appealing destination to a broad range of visitors. In an area about the size of West Virginia, Costa Rica has approximately 5% of the world's biodiversity. A full quarter of its land is set aside as National Park and environmentally protected areas. A small geographic area coupled with a diverse concentration of flora and fauna make Costa Rica a rare ecological wonderland. Whether on vacation, personal retreat, romantic get-away or attending a conference of interest, you will find the possibilities only limited by your imagination. Among the highlights are beautiful beaches, tropical rain forests, active volcanoes, exotic rivers, and a plethora of adventure activities.
Dubbed the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has been shaped by a long history of social and political stability, high literary rates, top rate medical care, and efficient infrastructure and services. The country has had no army since 1949 and is also the region's most deep-rooted democracy. In a report through the Happy Planet Index and Gallup Research, Costa Rica was once again found to be the happiest place on Earth. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/07/opinion/07kristof.htm
Come unplug as you enjoy all the wonders Costa Rica has to offer and experience a reconnecting with your passionate self, the grace of God, the people you love, and the amazing world in which we live.
Playa Hermosa
Located just 6 degrees north of the Equator in Northern Guanacaste, we recognize our “latitude” has a lot to do with the pura vida “attitude”. Playa Hermosa is only 20 minutes away from an international airport and offers one of the most popular beach destinations on the Pacific Coast. Translated “Beautiful Beach”, you will find nearly a mile of wide soft sand, warm deep blue waters, great snorkeling, and gorgeous tropical scenery. Our quiet beach town is a charming community that welcomes visitors all year long with genuine hospitality. Hermosa is proud of being awarded the Blue Flag Beach Award (Bandera Azul Ecologico), for those beaches displaying the greatest levels of cleanliness, amenities, and environmental sensitivity.
Papagayo Village sits just off the main street in Playa Hermosa running parallel to the water. There are two different routes available to walk, pedal or ride the short distance to the beach. We are also walking distance to grocery stores, miniature golf, movie theater, playground, boutique hotels, small resorts, upscale condos, villas, homes, restaurants and bars. In addition, we can hook you up with an array of adventure trips, water activities, secluded beaches and sightseeing that will make your stay an unforgettable experience. If it’s the nightlife calling you, there are a number of clubs and hotspots a few minutes south in the town of Playa del Coco.
Getting to Costa Rica is Easy
Arriving at Papagayo Village...
...is Even Easier
Daniel Oduber International Airport, just West of Liberia provides easy access to Papagayo Village. Delta, Continental, and American Airlines all provide direct flights from their respective hubs in the United States. All you need for visiting Costa Rica is a current passport and a spirit of adventure. The first thing you will see upon arrival is one of our smiling faces to greet you at the airport. From there we will make the whopping 20 minute drive to your awaiting villa and welcome beverage.
If you would like a rental car, we have arranged for Hola Rental Company to deliver your car to Papagayo Village and complete the paperwork right there in your villa. These are the lowest rates we have been able to negotiate for our guests.
However, you may choose to skip the car as many amenities are within walking distance and there are always buses, taxis, and tour vans available for periodic excursions. If you have a rental car company of preference, most of the major carriers provide shuttles from the airport to their nearby facilities.
Within minutes of Papagayo Village you can enjoy world class sports fishing and diving, as well as sailing, jet skiing, banana tubing, surfing, kayaking, golfing and horseback riding on the beach.
The truly adventurous guest can chose to zip line through the jungle canopy, take an ATV safari through the nearby dry forest, raft down spectacular white water rivers, mountain bike along scenic coastal roads, or hike deep into various National Park wildlife refuges.
If a more relaxed excursion is on your agenda, day trips are always available to view active volcanoes, soak in one of our natural hot springs, experience a geothermal mud bath, swim under spectacular waterfalls, lie on a deserted beach, or tour boat down one of the pristine rivers of the Palo Verde where you can experience firsthand Costa Rica's unique flora and fauna.
Whether photography is your thing or you just want to post some great shots on Facebook, you can figure Costa Rica to be the Holy Grail of photo ops!
Choosing what to do each day is the hard part... enjoying yourself is the easy! You decide what you want to do, and we will either set it up or go with you ourselves. You can feel comfortable knowing we have negotiated the best values on the most popular local activities. When it comes to your limited vacation cash, we got your back!
Of course the greatest gift we have to offer you at Papagayo Village is a warm smile, personal hospitality, and a genuine love for the "pura vida"
which is Costa Rica!

The Rill Family
David and Lori Rill live in Western Washington along with their two daughters, Mackenzie and Ellie. David and Lori grew up in the Pacific Northwest. David graduated from the University of Washington and excelled as a middle linebacker for the Huskies. Lori received her undergraduate degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA and her masters from Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. Both of their daughters are very active in sports, with Mackenzie playing volleyball and Ellie playing soccer and fast pitch.
The Rills enjoy snow skiing, boating on Lake Cushman and spending time at their yurt with friends. Summers are spent pulling the kids behind the boat on tubes and roasting marshmallows around the campfire. Their love of the water and outdoors led them to the beautiful country of Costa Rica. They have enjoyed zipline tours, the volcanoes and beaches of Costa Rica and look forward to spending more time there with family and friends.
The Rills dream of one day living the pura vida lifestyle in Costa Rica. Until then they are happy to co-own the Papagayo Village and spend as much time in the tropics as their current jobs will allow.
